The derailment and collision of two Conrail freight trains at Niverville Friday has knocked out water service to a trailer park, scrambled rail service and raised questions about the safety of the park.
The cause of the 6:20 a.m. collision, which occurred near where the tracks cross county Route 28B, is still under investigation, said Conrail spokesman Bob Libkind. The train crews are undergoing mandatory drug and alcohol tests, he said.
The accident occurred when a westbound train derailed and crossed into the path of an oncoming train sending one rail car skidding into a mobile home.
